Natalya Garrod established Sumac Environmental Planning in 2023 to dedicate her time and her skills towards building relationships to facilitating improved collaboration between First Nations, all three levels of government and industry proponents. She believes that collaboration is the key to success. She works remotely in Collingwood, Ontario which is the Traditional Territory of the Petun, Huron-Wendat, Saugeen Ojibway Nation, Rama, Beausoleil and Georgina Island First Nations.
"During her tenure, Natalya brought a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and a much-needed sense of steadiness and professionalism to our staff. Natalya was responsible for developing several key policies for CFN and played a signficiant role in amending various policies. She took an active leadership role in training, capacity building and community engagement sessions. She left Caldwell in a better place. I highly recommend her for any future endeavors.
"Natalya supported People Plan Community as an Advisory Planner to meaningfully engage First Nations with the Government of Canada for the review of the Annexes of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. Natalya was a timely, well organized and efficient advisor, supporting the lead facilitator through the preparation, pre and post the engagement sessions. Natalya's super powers are clear eyes, critical thinking and confident guidance, grounded in her combined planning and Indigenous relations experience. People Plan Community highly recommends her as a trusted advisor".
